Skiing Beginners Tips
Have you ever tried skiing? If you wish to explore the pleasures (and displeasures) of this popular sport, it will be a wise decision to be properly equipped with all the necessary information, more particularly the dos and don’ts. You would not want your zeal and enthusiasm to die down to a bad start!
Read on for instructions to be followed during your first day adventure.
First and foremost, make sure you are closely guided by an instructor. Understand that you cannot be an expert the first day. You will have to face numerous falls, the worst part being difficulty in getting up! Try to curb your embarrassment. Everyone learns from their falls!
Try to hold your excitement. Do not overreact or get terrified. You might either be very slow or might lose control of your speed. Calm down. You will soon master the trick!
Get into the right clothes. Wear warm clothes and avoid jeans or sweat pants. Thick ski pants with appropriate padding are a best buy. Pile on layers of clothes over you and top it with a waterproof jacket. Ensure your gloves are a smug fit.
Make sure your boots are comfortable fits. Too tight may cut off the circulation and give you cold feet. It will be difficult to control your skis if your boots do not leave any room to wriggle your toes. Try out your boots a day in advance – you would not want to waste time on your first day out.
Opt for the best slopes and skiing conditions. Research on the best available ski resorts which have an area especially marked for the beginners. Look out for wide slopes and avoid steep ones. Stay alert to the weather forecast. If the snow conditions are icy, cancel your plans. An icy surface is hard and slippery and poses the risk of injuries when you fall.
Keep moving. You have to keep yourselves warm in such cold conditions. The only way you can do so, apart from wearing warm clothing, is by being mobile. Do not stop. Keep your eyes, nose and ears covered, and flex your wrists and wiggle your toes and fingers. Move around on the slopes.
Learn the basic technique. Snowplow is the primary step taught to beginners. Learn to point your skis towards each other, in a subtle way so that they are only slightly inclined. If you push harder, you might have a good fall! This technique basically teaches you to control speed as skis positioned parallel help in increasing speed. Again, you will take your own time to master this technique.
Skiing is a highly enjoyable sport for the adventurous and brave souls! If you have the drive in you to face challenges and beat speed, then you are in for a pleasurable experience!
