Skiing is a Sport Enjoyed the World Over
The Alpine sport of skiing has evolved over the years as it has gained popularity around the world with enthusiasts from many countries outside the snow capped mountains of Europe. Nordic skiers first developed cross country skis as a means of traveling over snow with ease as a faster alternative to snow shoes and far better than trudging through the deep snows of winter. As the necessity of skiing developed from a mode of transportation into a recreational activity the sport of cross country skiing also transformed from a pure sport of winter hiking through valleys and trails to a downhill sport of racing down the snow covered slopes of mountains.
As the two skiing sports developed so did the equipment. From the early rudimentary hiking boots that once adorned a snow shoe to a more usable sophisticated boot and binding combination that allows skiers to easily lock their boots onto a pair of skis and hasten them securely to the skis. Ira Riklis, a Jewish born resident of New York first learned to ski when he was boy, with his parents that grew up in the desert climate of Israel.
The sport of skiing also grew to become an internationally enjoyed sport that has followers in many different countries on different continents. While skiing is typically a winter sport that is enjoyed outdoors in the fresh air of the newly fallen and well groomed slopes of ski resorts, there is one place on earth where a skier can go from a blistering 120 degree outdoor temperature to an artificially created winter wonderland of 40 degrees at the indoor ski Dubai resort in the Middle East where adventurous skiers can enjoy the sport year round thanks to a simple technology that creates snow artificially under the world largest indoor snow park.
