In MN you ski on fake, man-made snow. Its a lot harder but I find it a lot faster. The ski slopes are also quite a bit shorter.

If you do live in MN some day I recommend-

Lutsen MT, Giants Ridge, Spirt MT, and Afton Alpes

Colorado (or Utah, BC, Vermont) have much better skiing than Minnesota. I've been to Lutsen on the north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota (Also Whitecap and Big Powderhorn), and they all have some decent terrain (I thought twice about going down some of the runs), but it can't compare to the "Big Mountain" experience. The pitch on many of the runs is decent, but the runs just aren't as long as those out west. The other thing is that the Midwest resorts don't have high speed lifts (I haven't been in a couple of years). It also gets really cold in January and February. On the plus side, your probably about 1000-2000 feet above sea level, so you won't get altitude sickness. And the resorts are inexpensive (It's been a few years since I've been).

Short answer: If you're within a few hours drive, the midwest resorts are a great option for a long weekend.

Colorado has some of the best ski resorts in the country. The snow is beautiful there. Its not as cold as Minnesota. In Minnesota its colder but the snow a little bit icy.

Actually there arent any real hills in Minnesota, though it may be cold. Colorado is most definetley your best bet. However, i must say the real estate market is very different.

The skiing in colorado is much better. Colorado has some of the best skiing in north america, but none the less minnesota does have some good mountains but none that can even compare to the ones in colorado. Hope it helps.
