Lech is a stunning high altitude ski resort in the Voralberg region of Austria, famous for attracting many well known celebrities, movie stars, politicians and royals from around the globe.

Occupying over 250kms of highly rated skiing areas, this pretty mountain village offers the holidaymaker everything they could want from a top-class winter holiday, including high quality skiing, amazing hotels with a choice of fine dining, plus a popular après ski for everyone to enjoy after a busy day on the slopes.
Lech modestly adores it’s international popularity, attracting a broad range of visitors from around the world which has often included royalty!

The ‘Arlberg Ski Circus’ lift pass is available which enables skiers to reach the resorts of Lech, Zürs, St. Anton, Zug, Stuben and St. Christoph. It’s a 2 for 1 lift pass (Buy 1 Adult Lift Pass and get another free) with January W10/11 Ski holidays to Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Slovenia and Canada via Calgary, although Terms & Conditions do apply for January only.

The amount of Activities that Lech has on offer varies according to season, but the indoor sports centre gets busy on winter days in particular. The range in winter briefly includes Indoor golf, Tobogganing, Ice skating, Snowshoe walking and Sleigh rides around the village.

Lech is proud of the 50 odd Gourmet restaurants for guests to sample, of which some are quite small, intimate and low-key, whilst other won internationally recognised awards for their cuisine. The charming main street in Lech is full of out cafes and outdoor bars ideal for kicking off the après ski once you have left the slopes, and you can expect a fervent nightlife later on too! The Gasthof Post, Tannenbergerhof and Fux are among the favourites.

In Lech, you don’t need to be a skier to experience the amazing scenery. In summer or winter, pine-clad forests grace the side of many mountainside landscapes around the village and outdoor swimming pool. There is so much happening in Lech for Winter skiers or Summer tourists and with easy road, rail and flight links, its understandable why it has such an unqualified draw with so many holidaymakers.

On arrival you will receive the warmest of welcomes by Lech residents, always ready to help should you require assistance during your stay. On departure, you will leave with incredible memories.

Vermont skiing is an option that suits both beginners and advanced skiers. The place has Nordic and Alpine resorts that will make your stay worthwhile. The height of the slopes is about 2000 feet. This is way above that found in other areas. The region has fantastic snow that makes the sport exciting.

The skiing areas are strategically located to ensure the that the environment is preserved. Activities such as recycling are adequately practiced to ensure this goal is achieved. The area has beautiful natural surroundings. The region has enhanced the habitats of wildlife. Some of the ways that this has been done is by establishing corridors for bears. This is done by having wetlands close to the mountains to allow the bears to feed themselves.

Vermont skiing is a recreational activity that will do good to your body. The condition of your heart will improve. Your mind will be challenged to go for the best. Your spirit will be lifted. There are transportation facilities that allow skiers to park their vehicles conveniently.

Vermont skiing has led to the development of youth corps. These are involved in planting trees on the Jay Branch Brook. At least the fishes have shade. If you love experiencing new cultures, try using the village shuttle services. You will learn quite a lot from the people. If you have never skied before, you can be trained by the instructors at the area. The training involves skiing slowly and stopping at short distances. It is advisable to practice on a flat surface before trying a slope.

Skiing used to be an exclusive activity for the rich and famous. With more and more offers coming from other vacation resorts, ski resorts have to offer vacation packages that are more affordable to more people just to keep their operations going. This is great news for those who would like to experience skiing.

These vacation packages are made specifically for families who are interested to learn skiing or are already experienced in the sports.

Most of these packages include tickets to and from the place of origin, food, room accommodation and the use of some of facilities in the resort. Lunch is often taken out of the package to give the tourist a free hand in choosing where to dine during the day. For ski enthusiast, this means having lunch along the icy slopes with their ski gears.

When you are standing in front of a icy smooth slope, taking lunch will be one of the last thing that will be in your mind. To keep your stomach filled, you should bring some snacks along instead.

Depending on your package, you will be allowed to use different sets of equipment and different courses of the resort. If you just walk in pay for each of the services under the package, you will certainly end up paying more than what you actually paid for the package.

With the package, not only will you save on cost, you will also avoid delays and discomfort while waiting for your turns. Packages will allow you to have a continuous tour of the resort without going to line to pay for each ride or service.

To avail of such promotional skiing vacation packages, all one has to do is a little research ahead of the actual date of travel, especially on winter when travel is at its peak.

It would be wise to schedule the trip with your tour agents at the start of the year to avoid the rush. This will give your agent ample time to book the best packages that are available. However, if you intend search on your own, try searching online for your ideal skiing vacation package.

To experience all that the winter wonderlands have to offer, you will no doubt be heading off to a ski trip on the most thrilling, or perhaps even the more tame, slopes you can find! However, before setting off on your adventures, you need to be prepared with all the ski equipment and ski clothes you will need to keep you warm and on the snow as long as possible.

Few things can either make or break a great skiing trip more than the wrong kind of skiing equipment or not having the right kind of skiing clothes. You could be left shivering and stuck in the lodge over a mug of hot cocoa instead of skiing down the mountains! So to avoid being a party pooper, here is everything you need to have for the ultimate skiing trip!

Obviously the essentials of your ski equipment are your skis, poles, and boots. Not really a surprise there, but you want to make sure that all of your skiing equipment both fits your properly and is in good condition and high quality. Being stuck on the slopes with boots that are too small is a great way to get a blister, and is sure to put a damper on your fun. If you are travelling with kids, their skiing equipment should also include a helmet in case they take a nasty spill. Next you should also pack either ski goggles or sunglasses, because the sun can cast quite a glare across those blankets of white snow. Not only do you need to be careful to protect your eyes, but also your skin from sun exposure. Even though it may be cold, the sun’s rays are still able to burn you if you aren’t prepared with sunscreen and chapstick packed along with your skiing equipment.

After you have the basics down, it’s time to consider all of the skiing clothes you will need! Because hours out on the snow is chilly, you will want to be prepared and pack layers of your skiing clothes. Your base layer should be long thermals and made with materials that will wick away any perspiration so that you will remain dry while hitting the runs. The second layer should be further insulation for you and fleece garments are perfect for this. Finally, the outer layer of your ski clothing needs to be water and wind resistant to keep you dry and protected from any cutting winds. So along with your ski equipment, add to that perhaps a nylon shell, or other ski pants for the best outer layer. Other skiing clothes you will need to take into consideration are a hat to keep you from losing a good portion of your body heat, as well as gloves, scarves, and insulated socks to keep all the other parts of your body warm and toasty.

Because you won’t be spending all of your time on the slopes, in addition to your skiing equipment and ski clothes you should bring snow boots and regular clothes as well. Perfect for heading into the lodge or town for a bite to eat, between rides on the T-bar you can relax after hours of exercise. With all of your skiing equipment and skiing clothes planned and packed beforehand, you will have the liberty to fully enjoy a relaxing and thrilling ski trip!

The sport of telemark skiing is an interesting hybrid of cross-country skiing and downhill skiing. Telemark skiers can usually be found on the slopes, heading up the chairlifts and down the hills just like downhill skiers. However, the manner in which they come down the hills, and the equipment they use to do so, is much more similar to cross-country skiing. Unlike downhill ski boots, the boots of a telemark skier are attached to the skis only at the toes, just like those of a cross-country skier. It is this manner of binding and the skiing style it dictates that makes telemark skiers so easy to pick out on the slopes.

When a downhill skier wants to carve a turn, all he or she has to do is exert pressure on the edges of his or her skis. Because downhill ski boots are firmly attached to skis from toe to heel, the skier’s energy is easily transferred to the skis. However, making a turn in telemark skis is a little more difficult. As mentioned, telemark ski boots are attached to the skis only at the toes. To turn, the telemark skier must accomplish two things at once: the foot on the downhill ski must remain flat and the leg straight, while foot on the uphill ski must go up on the toes, allowing the skier to bend that leg at the knee. This position allows the skier to effectively transfer his or her energy to the skis and control the turn.

Telemark skiing boots usually feature a “duckbill,” an extra piece of plastic at the toes of the boots that interface with the skis’ bindings. There are several different kinds of telemark ski bindings, each of which has different characteristics. Three-pin bindings are the most traditional version. Such devices have three pins pointing up from the skis that correspond to holes in the duckbills of telemark skiing boots. The duckbills are simply placed on top of the bindings and then secured in place with a locking mechanism called a “bale.” This method is exactly the same as that used by cross-country ski bindings, which allows skiers to cover a wide range of territories.

Cable bindings have spring-loaded cables that hold the boots to the skis. The duckbills of the boots fit into sockets, but unlike three-pin bindings, cable bindings have no pins. The cables of these types of bindings stretch around the heels of the boots. Cable bindings are popular because they restrain the heel better during turns, allowing the skier better control. However, they are heavier and make it more difficult for the skier to flex his or her boots. This means that cable bindings are less suitable for cross-country skiing, as opposed to three-pin bindings.

Lastly, hinged plate bindings actually allow the skier to essentially switch back and forth between traditional and cable bindings. “Free pivot” mode allows the heels of the boots to remain free, mimicking the control level to three-pin bindings. But “downhill mode” increases the cable tension on the boots, keeping them closer to the skis and allowing the skier more control.

Skiing is loads of fun, but when you’re just starting out it can seem a bit daunting. It seems like everyone suggests a whole stack of things you need to take with you, so that in the end you either get confused or spend a whole lot of money on things you really don’t need. Sometimes it seems easier and cheaper to just forget about skiing, to save yourself the hassle! But relax – I’ve listed some of the basic essentials you need for skiing, so that you can have a clear idea of what you really need, and don’t waste your money on other stuff.

- Waterproof is essential! Check out your wardrobe and take anything that’s waterproof. Skiing can be cold and wet, and the last thing you need is to get soaked. It’s even better if you have waterproof mittens or gloves, particularly if you can wear your water resistance jacket or parka over the top of them. Keeping warm and dry on the slopes helps you enjoy yourself.

- Cotton is a bad idea. Choose wool based or synthetic materials, as they help to keep moisture away from your skin. This will also help you stay warm and dry throughout the day.

- Take along some energy bars. Once you get out on the slopes, it can be a long time between snacks, and skiing is generally quite hard work. So stuff some energy bars into your pockets, and you’ll be able to give yourself an energy fix when you need help to keep going.

- ID and some cash. Okay, nobody wants to think about the possibility of something going wrong, but it’s better to be prepared. Have some identification on you, and a little bit of cash just in case.

- Fluid! When it’s freezing cold and wet, you might think that you don’t need to worry about being hydrated. But in fact the air on a snowfield is generally quite dry, and you will be working hard. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.

Obviously this list of basics doesn’t include your actual skiing equipment, but it’s pretty easy to work out what you need there and either buy or hire it. But although you can probably ignore the things on this list and still go skiing, the bottom line is that by being a little better prepared, you’ll have a much better time skiing.

Nothing can ruin a day on the slopes quicker than getting cold. Whilst on the mountain you are often skiing in the elements and the nearest shelter could be at the bottom of the valley. Therefore it is essential to wear suitable attire to maximise enjoyment and length of time on the slopes. Although warm ski trousers and jackets are vital, it is many of the ski accessories such as gloves, hats, sunglasses and socks that help you retain maximum body warmth.

Gloves

A quality pair of ski gloves is vital for any skier. Try and buy some that offer suitable thickness but also provide enough feel for your ski poles. It is paramount that your gloves are fully waterproof as once they get cold and wet it is extremely difficult to dry them out on the slopes. It is also advisable to wear a pair of inner or thermal gloves for an extra layer of insulation. Ensure they are breathable and are tight fitting. If you’re hands are particularly susceptible to the cold then mitts may be worth considering as they trap all the heat from your hands in one space.

Hat and Scarf

Wearing a hat and scarf can serve a dual purpose. Not only do they help retain heat but they also stop your skin from being exposed to the elements. Without these you could find yourself loosing heat quicker than you can retain it.

Sunglasses

Because you ski at altitude the dangers presented from the sun are increased. For this reason alone it is always worth protecting your eyes whilst on the slopes. Sunglasses [http://www.woodworm.tv/woodworm-performance-sunglasses-buy-1-get-1-free2.aspx] or goggles are also necessary in order to keep wind and precipitation out of the eyes. They also reduce snow glare that can prove dangerous as the sun reflects off the white landscape. Some eyewear also has coloured lenses to help improve sight in poor conditions. Goggles cover more of the face and offer better protection against wind chill.

Socks

Keeping your feet warm requires a thick pair of ski socks. Invest in a quality pair of thermal socks and you will be rewarded. Ensure they are well fitted and offer some form of cushioning. It should never be necessary to wear two pairs of socks otherwise you run the risk of reducing the circulation in your feet and thus the warmth in them.

One consideration that is often missed by skiers trying to keep their feet warm is the ski boots they use. A well fitted pair of ski boots is arguably more important than the socks you wear. When buying or hiring ski boots make sure you can move your toes, if not it is almost certain that they will get cold. However well fitted boots should not allow you to move your foot side to side within the boot otherwise your ski control will be limited. For those looking for extra comfort it can also be possible to have battery operated heated footbeds inserted into your boots at a local ski shop.

Base layer

Technology has moved on considerably since the days of woollen thermal tops and long johns. The introduction of the base layer has provided skiers with a more comfortable and lightweight alternative. Base layers serve two purposes. Not only do they keep you warm but they also help to keep you dry. The compression fit helps to direct blood flow to muscle groups during exercise thus maintaining sufficient body warmth.

Even though conditions are generally cold when you are skiing, the physical nature of the sport will result in you perspiring. Wearing a base layer will help to disperse the perspiration quicker as the moisture is removed to the outer layer of the garment away from your skin so it can evaporate quicker.
